Background

Uncertainty, anxiety, crisis, confusion: these are words many of us have been wrestling with in our daily lives as the pandemic has played out. Many have been in overdrive to mitigate against further risks in their businesses, organisations and personal lives. Many are wrestling with new ways of working, unexpected challenges and uncertainty. We need to build our resilience and ensure our minds are equipped not only to manage through the current crisis but to lead for the future.

  • Hauwa Ojeifo. Mental Health Coach, social entrepreneur, founder of Nigeria’s first mental health helpline.
  • Dr Raghu Appasani. Psychiatrist, Neuroscientist, Mental Health Advocate, and Social Entrepreneur focused on service provision in rural India.

 

Attendees will have a chance to participate in a Q&A session.

Speaker 1: Kayvan Kian, Netherlands

Kayvan Kian is an entrepreneur, teacher, and management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Amsterdam. He is the founder of the Young Leaders Forum, and has given guest lectures at Harvard Business School, HEC, Sciences Po, and other schools. Ever since childhood, he has been interested in understanding how some people are able to thrive through challenging times in life, and he hopes that by sharing these hard-fought lessons with each other, we can make this world a better place. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and a degree in both Economics and Law from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Kayvan is the author of the best-selling book What is Water? How Young Leaders Can Thrive in an Uncertain World.

Speaker 2: Hauwa Ojeifo, Nigeria

Mind & Mental Health Coach, Founder & Executive Director, She Writes Woman.
I have created the first privately held 24/7 mental health helpline which has impacted over 500 people and averted over 45 cases of suicide. I initiated the only monthly mental health support group that has been running for 2 years and now operates in 5 states across Nigeria. About 450 women have registered for Safe Place support group and benefited from free or subsidised mental healthcare in Nigeria. She is the only Nigerian female recipient of the Queen’s Young Leaders award and is one of the 2019 Obama Foundation Leaders. She is currently a certified Mind and Mental health coach, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Emotional Freedom Techniques therapy practitioner, she started off with a different educational background. Hauwa holds an MSc in Investment Banking & Islamic Finance from Henley Business School, University of Reading, England.

Speaker 3: Raghu Appasani, USA / India

Dr. Raghu Kiran Appasani is a Psychiatrist, Neuroscientist, Mental Health Advocate, and Social Entrepreneur focused on bridging the gap between western and eastern practices to create a wholesome society. He is the Founder & CEO of The MINDS Foundation, a mental health nonprofit, for which he has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, One Young World Delegate Ambassador, StartingBloc Fellow, Nexus Global Delegate, EchoingGreen, MassChallenge, and Kellogg Innovation Network Delegate. Through his extensive scientific research, he has published over 35 peer-reviewed articles and edited five books. He has given over 50 talks on mental health, entrepreneurship, global health, and consciousness in parallel with authorship for ThriveGlobal, The Better India, and The Huffington Post. His commitment to wellness has led to the develop of initiatives focused on reliance and empathy in physicians, resulting in him receiving the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He is currently a Psychiatrist-in-Training at The University of Southern California where he is the Wellness Representative and receipt of the Della Martin Foundation Research Award. Most recently he launched CircleSpace, a new wellness company that specializes in addressing the growing subclinical mental health space.
