Beyond Accounting – Mental Fitness aims to inform Finance professionals about Mental Fitness – challenges and opportunities. This is the first in the Beyond Accounting series from Chartered Accountants Worldwide Network USA and the event is in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

Program Description

In the opening session our speakers focus on the impact of covid on mental fitness. Nathalie McVeigh, Director with Eisner Amper, speaks about “The next normal – how to make it work for you”. Learning objectives

Finance leaders need to be aware and supportive of the impact of the pandemic on people that they work with. During this time many have had to adapt to new ways of working and the advent of new pressures and challenges to the way we work. These sessions are aimed at providing members with the perspective of those that we work with who are focused on wellbeing and mental fitness. By recognizing these challenges, we can acknowledge them and take steps to minimize their impact, and provide support to our colleagues, families and friends.

By the end of the session, attendees will be able to answer the following questions:

  • How ‘normal’ working has changed and what may come next / how to make this work for you. There is a lot about waiting for the next normal to happen, we discuss how we can create it with work/life integration, better boundaries, building resilience using virtual communication effectively and acknowledging the physiological reactions to ‘staying the course’.
  • The impact of anxiety in the workplace: the relationship between stress and anxiety. We will explore how these states can negatively impact our professional and personal lives, as well as providing some practical tools that can help to regulate and improve our emotional responses, while identifying practical ways to build resilience and mental wellbeing.
  • The importance of the breath and meditation as tools to support mental wellbeing and a practical breathing session
  • In the closing keynote, Jonny shares his experience with mental fitness in both a personal and work capacity and takes us through the importance for businesses to focus on mental health.
