By Jade Petalcorin
Planning and Performance is a key area of focus for finance teams in organizations of all types.
Our most recent webinar, “Planning and Performance Management Paradigm”, was based on a paper released at the November 2022 World Congress in India. This was authored by CA ANZ and ACCA , in partnership with PwC. It examines views on the role of finance in planning and performance management both now and in the future.
Charlotte Evett, General Manager of New Zealand Regions, one of the authors of the paper highlights findings from the research paper which surveyed 3,000 finance professionals and interviewed 100 global finance leaders, to compile their views on Planning and Performance today.
She highlighted that much of Finance today, with a sole focus on financial forecasting and balance sheets, is outdated.
Muhammad (“Mu”) Hassan, partner at PwC, summarized the overall market trends in FP&A space.
He highlights how technology and agility is needed in the world of Performance Management as the world scales up from simple data collection during this paradigm shift.
Thomas Finn, CFO at Adar IT, gives an industry perspective in Planning and Performance, as an experienced executive focused on rapidly growing high tech organizations.
He highlights how Planning and Performance are the core elements of the journey of any company.
In the second session, a panel discussion, our moderator Jayson Poulton, Deputy CFO at Commonwealth Bank, asked Mu what he thinks are the key challenges that finance teams face right now.
Mu highlights how the development of leading data scientists and analysts who understand business well, is critical to better performance management.
The event concluded with a live Q&A with audience questions. One question asked how does data and technology support a robust planning performance and managing process? Here is Thomas’s response.
Thomas highlights how in a data-overloaded world, there needs to be focus on what is the team of the story. He also highlights the importance of having data that is current and easy to obtain.
