Beyond Accounting: A Future Fit Chartered Accountant
In partnership with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, CAW Network USA presents what is necessary to be ‘future fit’

There are four non-technical components to becoming a future fit chartered accountant. On July 29th, CAW Network USA teamed up with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) to host a captivating conference highlighting this very topic. The components – business, leadership, personal, and future – were thoroughly explained by five of SAICA’s finest chartered accountants.
With presentation style and panel style sessions, the audience was able to gain multiple perspectives on the importance of each component. Not only that, but they also came away with a greater appreciation for the need to grow and adapt as a finance professional. Being future fit is the key to career success.
Business: Andile Khumalo, Founder and CEO of KhumaloCo, presented to our attendees the idea that finance professionals are in a transition from gatekeeper to strategist. Watch as he explains how future fit accountants need to fill more of a facilitator type role.
Leadership: Explaining the idea of “always-on change” to the audience, Nancy Chakabuda, Internal Controls Director EMEA for Cummins Inc., focuses on how there are internal and external consistent changes that a company faces. She also shows how this leads to a constant change/opportunity cycle, and how business can leverage this for maximum success.
Personal: Dineshrie Pillay highlights a study done by AICPA Cima and EY Seren in her presentation. The study focuses on the effects of COVID-19 specifically on the accounting industry. She uses this study to show what is necessary to be future fit in this profession post pandemic.
Technology: Founder of Corporate Solutions.ai in Wales, Errol Finkelstein, is an expert on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural learning processing. Using his wealth of knowledge, he enlightens the audience on exactly why AI is different from any other innovation, and what role it will soon come to play in our world.
Q&A: During the panel session of the conference, Natasha Holbeck served as the moderator. Natasha is a Financial Services audit partner at Deloitte, and she draws upon her experience in the field to expand on Andile’s idea of gatekeeper to strategist. She shows, firsthand, how the landscape of the profession is changing.
