Aisling McCaffrey is a Director in the Financial Services Consulting department of Grant Thornton specialising in Sustainability. Aisling has over 10 years’ experience in the Financial Services sector working with key clients across Europe on a range of projects covering business strategy, risk management and sustainability advisory.
Aisling has a keen interest in the UN Sustainable Development Goals with a particular focus on gender equality, quality education and climate action. To that end, Aisling has taken on a number of commitments in supporting organisations such as co-chair of 100 Women in Finance Early Career Committee and Non-Executive Director of Global Action Plan Ireland. Aisling is a co-founder of the ‘Green Team Network’ – a forum for connecting firms across the Irish Funds Industry to encourage collaboration and empower change towards a more sustainable environment and was previously recognised at the co-Chartered Star in 2021, representing the Institute at OYW in Munich.
Michael Izza
CEO of ICAEW, Chairman, Chartered Accountants Worldwide
Appointed Chief Executive in 2006, Michael’s leadership has seen ICAEW embrace a vision of building a world of strong and sustainable economies, transforming itself into a professional accountancy body with a truly global identity and reach. In 2018 Michael became Chairman of Chartered Accountants Worldwide.
Michael regularly meets ministers, policy-makers and regulators from around the world, and is a frequent media commentator on economic and business issues. He passionately believes that the wider emerging forces which are already changing the very nature of work – such as climate change and technological disruption – present ICAEW Chartered Accountants with many more opportunities than threats, and is committed to helping the profession meet these challenges.
Michael qualified as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant in 1986 with Coopers & Lybrand after graduating in law from Durham University, where he was also president of the student union. He has served as a school governor for eleven years and is a trustee of several charities, including Moorfields Eye Charity, supporting London’s world class Moorfields Eye Hospital. Prior to joining ICAEW, he spent four years at Spring Group, where he was managing director of several businesses and group finance director. From 1989 to 1996 he worked for the Canadian company, John Labatt Ltd., latterly as managing director of its retail arm.
Elena Margineanu
Ph.D. Lecturer, Free International University of Moldova
Elena holds a Ph.D. and is a Lecturer at the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM), where she teaches an introductory course in environmental law for 2nd year students. Prior to this, Elena worked as an environmental impact assessment evaluator at the Solidarity Fund PL. She worked on two contracts that evaluated the Environmental Impact of sub-projects submitted to Solidarity Fund PL (NGO) from Moldovan Local Action Groups. Projects were funded by the Polish Government, EU, and USAID. During the year, Environmental Impact Assessments for 94 sub-projects were undertaken. Elena was also a project coordinator at the National environment Centre in Moldova, where she predominantly dealt with water pollution issues, coordinating activities between three key stakeholders: local public authorities, regional economic agents, and the government. Elena holds a number of awards including the One Young World Leading Scholar, which she gained in 2019.
Emma Schuster
Climate Risk Analyst, Just Share
Emma Schuster is a climate risk analyst at non-profit shareholder activism organisation Just Share, which advocates for corporate South Africa to use its financial and social power to drive urgent action to combat climate change and reduce inequality. Emma is an expert in corporate governance, responsible investment, and shareholder activism. Her work focuses on the role of the private sector in achieving a just transition to a low-carbon economy and she writes on related issues including climate governance, corporate lobbying and greenwashing.
Emma holds a BA LLB from UCT and an LLM from Lund University and is admitted as an attorney in South Africa.
