The Coronavirus pandemic is challenging our societies in ways not experienced in our lifetimes. Lockdown measures have been enforced by governments worldwide, in order to halt the spread of the virus. Despite this, Accountants across the globe – as well as students – need to be able to continue their learning journey despite face-to-face sessions and conferences being abandoned due to social distancing. This has meant that in addition to adjusting to social distancing and working from home, we are having to get to grips with new ways of engaging and learning along with the technology that accompanies it.
Crises inadvertently create opportunity. Challenges and crises have the potential to ignite our greatest ideas, creative thoughts and leadership decisions as they force us outside our usual norms. It is often said that the best things lie just beyond our comfort zones.
Our home institutes are working tirelessly to support their members through this crisis and to develop further as practitioners. They are providing comprehensive online learning opportunities on a number of relevant subjects, allowing chartered accountants everywhere to continue with their CPD. Many of our home institutes have also put together a series of webinars. For example, SAICA has launched a series of complimentary webcasts entitled ‘Leadership in times of crisis’. The series addresses a whole host of topics that are relevant to students, young chartered accountants as well as seasoned practitioners. Links to these webinars are available on our website under ‘Events’ and ‘Past events’.
In addition, Chartered Accountants Worldwide have created a COVID-19 Content Hub, collating resources from member institutes and adding inspiring content from the Chartered Accountants Worldwide network that show innovative ways individuals and businesses are responding to the crisis. On the Hub you will find articles, videos and other insightful content, collected from around the globe, that we hope will help guide you through these unprecedented times.
Chartered Accountants Worldwide will be updating the Hub regularly with new content that will keep us up to speed on how we are providing leadership at this time. If you have articles from your own company or colleagues that you would like to share here, please send details to [email protected]
