Across the Network Episode 1: Rock stars, AI and a corner office in New York

Across the Network

Our new podcast brings you the stories, people and research shaping Chartered Accountancy across the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Episode one is live now.

The member who became an author

Shane Rogers, a Chartered Accountant working in internal audit, has just published his first book, So You Want To Be an Internal Audit Rock Star? It runs to nearly 300 pages of leadership lessons for assurance professionals, told through rock music analogies.

The numbers behind it are worth pausing on. Sixty five thousand words, written in bursts over two and a half years, much of it tapped out on his phone while waiting at his son’s sports practice. He turned down a publishing contract along the way, choosing to self publish rather than write to someone else’s deadline.

He also made a deliberate choice to write every word himself, so the book would sound like him. His verdict on what got him there: focus, perseverance and creativity.

Your invitation to shape the profession’s biggest AI study

Chartered Accountants Worldwide, together with its member institutes and research firm Ipsos, has launched Wave Two of its global study on artificial intelligence and the future of the profession.

This round looks at three fronts: traditional AI, generative AI and the newest frontier, agentic AI. It asks how each is reshaping roles, skills and what the market now expects from Chartered Accountants.

The survey takes about 15 minutes, responses are confidential, and the findings will be shared back with members. It closes on 1 September, so it is worth doing sooner rather than later. You will find the link on our homepage.

From an audit trail in Dublin to an office in New York

In the community roundup, we point you towards the latest episode of Career Conversations, our long form interview series hosted by Nancy Chakabuda.

This time she speaks to Breffni O’Donnell, the Chartered Accountant who went from three years in audit in Dublin to opening a technology company’s New York office in the space of six months. He explains why he sees the CA qualification as a springboard rather than a box, and which skills he believes will future proof the profession.

We also round up what is coming next in your local chapter, with 29 of them now active across North America.
